Masters Degree Program

Would you like to move up on the pay scale or fill upcoming openings at the community college or in state staff? Start planning NOW! Call our department office (805.756.2803) to discuss plans to complete a Master of Agricultural Education (MAE) degree! This learn by doing program will help you grow your knowledge and skills while developing relationships with your colleagues. Information about the Masters program may also be found at: http://www.aged.calpoly.edu/ and click on the Master of Agricultural Education Degree link in the menu at right. Professionals currently working on their program requirements should periodically visit with their advisors to stay on-track. Those who desire to complete their degrees during the 2016–2017 academic year, and who have not previously applied, must apply for fall quarter by April 1. Go to http://csumentor.edu.

They See Me Rollin'

Like many of you, the Agricultural Education and Communication Department has welcomed two new additions… vans! In December, we received two brand new Dodge mini vans. The vans are an important resource for our program, allowing our team to travel to supervise student teachers, facilitate professional development, and capture stories for our publications. We are grateful to the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences for providing these much needed upgrades.

Teacher Candidates Around the State

There are currently seven teacher candidates completing their fulltime student teaching experiences. Thank you to the following high schools for their assistance with student teaching placements: King City, Nipomo, Pioneer Valley, Pitman-Turlock, Santa Maria, Santa Ynez and Soledad.

Welcome Ms. Chelsi Faria!

Chelsi is serving as the department’s graduate assistant. Her responsibilities include assisting with planning the Student Teacher Conclave, co-advising the State FFA Finals steering committee, writing the department newsletter, and co-teaching Ag Ed 220. Chelsi is from Tipton and she recently completed her student teaching experience at Hilmar High School.

National Winner

Agriculture Communication senior, Kenna Lewis recently competed in the American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers and Ranchers National Collegiate Discussion Meet in Kansas City, Missouri. Fifty competitors from 34 states took part in the contest. Kenna was named CHAMPION and received a scholarship for $2,500 from sponsor CHS. She is from San Luis Obispo.

CATA AgriSkills Workshops

Every year, CATA hosts a professional development series following closing ceremonies for summer conference. AgriSkills begins Thursday, June 23 at 1pm and runs through Friday, June 24 at 5pm. To receive 1 semester unit of credit, you must attend three, four-hour sessions. Workshops are offered for every pathway and management challenge.
