Since 1996, Mr. Greg Beard has served as the regional supervisor for the South Coast Region FFA, an area of the state that spans from San Jose to Los Angeles.  Mr. Beard assists the Agricultural Education and Communication Department by regularly sharing his expertise with potential teachers, as well as helping the department in selecting sites for the placement of student teachers.

 

Born and raised in Lompoc, California, Mr. Beard was very active in FFA.  He served as a chapter and regional president prior to receiving the coveted American FFA Degree.  He attended Cal Poly, where he was actively involved on the beef and swine show teams, employed at the Environmental Horticulture Unit, and was the president of Alpha Tau Alpha.  Mr. Beard received a Master of Science degree and earned teaching credentials at Cal Poly.  He fulfilled his assignment as a student teacher at Righetti High School in Santa Maria.

 

Mr. Beard taught at Fullerton High School for ten years.  He served as the state president of the California Agricultural Teachers’ Association, and he was named the State FFA Star Advisor while teaching agriculture at the secondary level.

 

Currently, Mr. Beard provides technical assistance to programs of agricultural education at high schools in the South Coast Region.  His work includes reviews and evaluations of programs, FFA awards and applications, and he arranges professional development activities and events for agriculture instructors.  He also oversees the California State FFA Judging Finals held each year at Cal Poly.  Mr. Beard enjoys making a difference in the lives of students and teachers by providing them with opportunities to succeed.
